DishPal

Plan the week, shop once, cook with what you have.

Type or say chicken tacos, spaghetti bolognese, caesar salad for 4. DishPal writes one shopping list: every ingredient once, amounts added up, sorted the way you walk the store. Then it helps you plan the rest of the week, keep track of what’s already in the fridge, and cook it.

The Story

Three Recipes, One Trip to the Store

Cooking three dishes in a week means three ingredient lists, and somewhere in them garlic shows up three times, in three different amounts. You either add it up in your head in the aisle or come home with too much of one thing and none of another. DishPal started as the fix for exactly that: tell it what you want to cook and it merges everything into one list. Version 2.0 adds what comes before and after the list: a menu for the week, a recipe box that fills itself from screenshots, and a record of what is already at home so you buy less of it.

How It Works

1

Say what you want to cook

Type it, say it, or pick from your saved recipes: tacos, bolognese, caesar salad for 4. Or put dishes on the weekly menu and send the whole week at once.

2

Get one list

Every ingredient appears once with the total amount, grouped by aisle. Things you always have at home can be ticked off for you.

3

Shop and cook

Tick items off on your phone, Lock Screen, widget or watch. At home, cooking mode walks you through one step per page.

What's Inside

🧄

Shared Ingredients, Bought Once

Garlic for three dishes becomes one line with the total. 80 g of parmesan plus 40 g is 120 g, not two entries you add up in the aisle.

🗓️

Your Week, Planned

Put dishes on a weekly menu, or let AI fill the empty dinners from your own recipes and whatever is about to expire. One tap turns the week into a shopping list. Free users plan three days ahead; Premium plans any week.

📸

A Recipe Box That Fills Itself

Save a recipe from up to six screenshots of it, or paste the text. Favorite, tag and rescale servings, then add it to your list or menu. Free holds 10 recipes.

🧊

Know What’s at Home

Keep track of your fridge, freezer and pantry, and see what you could cook tonight from what’s there. With Premium, snap a photo of a shelf to log it and get a reminder the day before something expires.

🔒

Shop From the Lock Screen

With Premium, the list stays on the Lock Screen and in the Dynamic Island while you shop, and items tick off right there. Widgets with check-off are free.

⌚

On Your Wrist

The Apple Watch app shows the current list and ticks items off, so your phone can stay in your pocket. (Premium)

🏪

Split by Store, Your Aisle Order

Send items to the stores you actually go to and set the order of the aisles. (Premium)

AI You Choose

Apple Intelligence on your device or on Apple’s Private Cloud Compute, or your own OpenAI, Claude, Gemini or DeepSeek key. No server of ours sits in between.

📱

iPhone, iPad and Watch

Lists, history, widgets and iCloud sync are free on every device. Siri can add an item or tell you what’s left.

What Is Free, and What DishPal Is Not

DishPal is free to download. Manual lists, history, widgets and iCloud sync are free for good, along with 3 AI uses a week (a list, a recipe import or a menu fill-in each count as one; the count resets at the start of each week), 10 saved recipes, a menu three days ahead and the kitchen inventory.

DishPal Premium adds unlimited AI, recipes and stores, the full weekly menu, Lock Screen shopping, the Apple Watch app, Snap Your Fridge, What Can I Cook?, expiry reminders, cooking mode, family sharing and more. Choose weekly, yearly (with a 3-day free trial) or a one-time Lifetime purchase. If you bought DishPal before it was free, Premium is already yours.

It is not a calorie counter or a nutrition app, and it doesn’t order groceries for delivery. It doesn’t import recipes from a link yet either; screenshots or pasted text work today. Shelf scanning needs Apple Intelligence on iOS 27 or later.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is DishPal free?

Yes. DishPal is free to download, with manual lists, history, widgets, iCloud sync, 3 AI uses a week, 10 recipes, a three-day menu and the kitchen inventory. DishPal Premium unlocks everything else as a weekly or yearly subscription (the yearly plan starts with a 3-day free trial) or a one-time Lifetime purchase.

I bought DishPal before it was free. Do I pay again?

No. If you bought DishPal while it was a paid download, Premium is unlocked for you automatically. Just update the app.

How does DishPal combine ingredients from several recipes?

Add the dishes you want to cook and DishPal lists each ingredient once with the amounts added up, so garlic for three dishes becomes one line with the total. The list is grouped by aisle.

Can I save recipes from Instagram, TikTok or a website?

Take screenshots of the recipe (up to six) or copy its text, and DishPal turns it into a recipe card with ingredients and steps. It doesn’t import from a link yet.

Do I need an account or an API key?

No account. AI runs with Apple Intelligence on supported devices, on your iPhone or on Apple’s Private Cloud Compute. If you prefer, you can add your own OpenAI, Anthropic Claude, Google Gemini or DeepSeek key; it stays in your Keychain and that provider bills you directly.

Can my family share the list?

Yes, with Premium. Share lists, menu, recipes and kitchen through your own iCloud. Ticks sync live for everyone, and family members you invite get the kitchen features too.

Does it work on Apple Watch and iPad?

Yes. DishPal runs on iPhone and iPad with iCloud sync, and the Apple Watch app (Premium) shows your list and lets you tick items off.

Where is my data stored?

On your devices and in your own iCloud. There are no ads, no analytics and no server of ours. AI requests go only to Apple or, if you add your own key, to the provider you chose.
